About

Seryphina Collies has a relatively brief history, though scarily enough a decade has passed since I first entered a show ring with a collie! I grew up saying I would show dogs, and Petra (Our Royal Lady) was my 14th birthday present. At her first show, somehow we managed to win a strong puppy bitch class and I was totally hooked. While Petra lacked some qualities necessary to be truly competitive in the show ring, having a collie with her qualities and breeding has been instrumental in steering me towards the "classic collie" or rather towards the type of collie the standard describes.  Petra had a lot of Bririch breeding and this in turn led me to study the Bririch kennel and thus I followed a familiar path of falling in love with Ch. Bririch Blue Yvette and so the seed of wanting a blue merle of my own was planted...however that was quite the wait.

In the meantime, for my sixteenth birthday, a golden sable daughter of Int. Ch. Nyitramenti Your Majesty at Snow Hills, who had been imported to Ireland in whelp called Joshren Ryiasha came to live at Seryphina and she provided me with an early taste of show ring success when she won a Green Star and was Reserve Best Puppy in Show at an All Breed International Show. This was only her second outing.  Riona went on to win a further Green Star and 6 Reserves despite never being campaigned fully.  Unfortunately, we lost Riona at all too early an age.

Riona aged 8 months and Yvonne aged 16.

In spite of having had success with a sable, the desire for a Blue Merle was still strong. I had be watching the Wicani Kennel for several years and intended mating Riona to a Wicani male, disappointingly this never happened, however, in January 2005, a little blue Wicani bitch did come to live at Seryphina. Wicani Touch of Elegance at Seryphina is one of those dogs that is just an absolute joy, if a handful at times. Ella, once met is rarely forgotten, she thinks dog shows are organized for her entertainment. Ella gained her title in 2007 from limited showing in 2006 and 2007 and we are justly satisfied with her 11 Green Stars (9 with BOB) and 7 Reserve Green Stars. She was also the All Ireland Collie and Sheepdog Society's Green Star Bitch of the Year.

In 2006, a litter was born at Wicani, that had one blue dog, (now known as Wicani Waltz of the New Moon) a tri dog and a little blue bitch.  This little blue bitch kept taking my fancy because her absolute femininity and beautiful head and expression. Lily (Wicani Catching Moonbeams over Draiochta) came to Seryphina in partnership with Draiochta Shetland Sheepdogs. Lily had a lovely puppy career and we hope to get her into the ring at some point in the future, though unfortunately, she thinks dog shows are rather silly!

Ella produced her first litter in 2006 to Wicani What's New Pussycat, produced eight tricolours!!! Seryphina Dance of the Raven Moon went to live at Wicani in partnership with Seryphina and we are very excited about this bitch of classic type, magnificient shape and beautiful movement.

I have been judging for approximately four years and I am passed to give Green Stars in Collies. I hope to continue my judging career, however my current priority is the development of breeding plan. Temperament and health are of prime importance when breeding any animal and we only breed from stock that are sound in mind and body.  I plan to continue to breed blues and tricolours, though we may have the odd sable litter, combining Wicani, Karava, Corydon and Rickwood, along with the occasional carefully selected out cross.

I am committed to producing collies that are of correct type and shape.  Sound construction along with effortless movement are essential to my image of the perfect collie. I want a well angulated animal, with a long arched neck, as in my view this essential to producing "impassive dignity" which is vital to the overall impression. The collie head should be a blunt, "well-finished" wedge, with a good underjaw, the head should not have any flaring or blockiness in any direction and the stop should not be a big door step, but just "slight but perceptible" as the standard says.  Eyes should be obliquely set and not too large. Ears should be neat and mobile to give correct expression in combination with other elements of the head. My pet hates are collies that lack dignity and elegance, balance is perhaps the keyword when describing the collie.

Currently Seryphina Collies are resident in a number of locations, as I am training to be a midwife in Surrey and its thanks to several people that I am able to continue with my collies while I am training.  A special, enormous thank to Angela Harvey of Wicani, for giving me such a strong foundation, for having the "evil child" and just being an amazing source of knowledge, support and friendship.  Another thank you to my parents who have , for so long, facilitated my canine goals.
